A globally celebrated event on the 8th of September, by physiotherapists with the aim of raising
awareness about the profession and its role in building a physically well, mobile, and independent
society.
A Ceremony was held today at the Faculty of Health Sciences, to mark World Physiotherapy Day. First Lady Fazna Ahmed graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and launches a video commemorating the occasion.
The theme for this year’s World Physiotherapy Day is Osteoarthritis (Madu kashi geyney bali/ Madu kashi girey bali)
 

Bachelor of Physiotherapy, MNU: This 4-year undergraduate degree program prepares graduates
for a career in rehabilitating patients and helping to maintain or maximize movement and function in
people who are affected by injury, illness, or disability. (https://courses.mnu.edu.mv/course/162)
Currently 53 students are studying in 4 batches.

The physiotherapy students of MNU have planned a 2-day event to take part in this year’s
celebrations to educate students, and the general public regarding the role of physiotherapy, and
Osteoarthritis. The event outline is explained below.

Day 1 (08/09/2022)- For MNU Students
Venue: Faculty of Health Sciences, Male’
Time: 09:00 – 16:00
The events of this day will commence following a ceremony of inauguration. Guests and students
will have access to the following stalls throughout the duration of the event.
1. Health screening
2. Balance Stall
3. Anatomy Stall
4. Awareness Stall
5. Games Stall
6. Food Stall
7. Stall by Physio Solutions

Day 2 (09/09/2022)- Open to public
Venue: Social Center outdoor area
Time: 16:00 – 18:00

Overview of stalls and activities
1. Health screening
This stall will include general health screening tests such as checking BMI, blood pressure, and blood
glucose levels. Additional tests will also be available to evaluate coordination, flexibility, and muscle
strength.
2. Awareness Stall
This stall is based on creating awareness amongst students and the general public regarding
physiotherapy and this year’s theme, osteoarthritis.
3. Balance Stall
This stall will carry out various screening tests for balance and proprioception of all age groups. It
will be executed concerning this year’s theme.
4. Anatomy Stall
Focuses on providing anatomy knowledge of anatomy for students of all health disciplines studying
in FHS. The events of this stall will be carried out on the 8th of September only.
5. Kids Area
This area includes a variety of fun and educational games dedicated to children of age 3-12 years.
This would be carried out on the 9th of September only.
6. Face paint
This is an additional stall to engage children and students attending the event.
7. Food stall
This stall will provide refreshments for participants of the event.
8. Games stall
This stall will conduct various activities that will challenge participants in terms of their
coordination, agility, and balance, as well as kicking and throwing accuracy.
9. Mass exercise
This is a series of exercises carried out for a duration of 30 minutes led by our students.
10. Skits
Fun, creative, and entertaining performances of 5-7 minutes focused on educating the public about
Osteoarthritis and its management.
