About Us

Kulhudhuffushi Campus is the Northern-most campus of the Maldives National University (MNU), first established on 7th March 1987 as the “Rural Youth Vocational Training Centre (RYVTC)” offering technical training in the areas of engineering. The campus was re-located and rebranded as a campus of the Maldives College of Higher Education (MCHE) – the precursor to MNU – in 2003. Since then, the scope of training and higher educational opportunities available on campus has tremendously expanded beyond engineering, science and technology to include other areas such as teaching, nursing, Islamic sharia and law, Arabic language and Dhivehi language, psychology, business and management, computing and ICT, and coastal navigation. Several of the courses in these areas can now be completed up to master’s degree on campus. Over time the campus has established several facilities and resources to cater for students’ learning and well-being. These include state-of-the-art engineering workshop, welding and metal fabrication workshop, electronics lab, nursing art lab, computer lab, library, auditorium, a prayer room, and two hostels: one for male students and the other for female students. A three-storey building with a canteen, a multi-purpose hall, and an advanced science lab is also being established. Eight administrative staff, 11 lecturers, and 12 support staff work tirelessly to cater for the needs of its ever-growing number of students.
