The Centre for Educational Technology and Excellence (CETE) at The Maldives National University (MNU) hosted a free, public webinar on “Multimodal Assessment: Exploring Modern Assessment Practices” on 18 December 2024. Presented by Associate Professor Dr. Ramiz Ali, the session attracted 27 participants and explored emerging approaches to assessment in higher education.

The webinar focused on preparing students for the demands of the 21st-century workplace while addressing challenges arising from artificial intelligence (AI). It highlighted the importance of strengthening assessment security and validity and exploring multimodal approaches that support meaningful learning and the demonstration of diverse student competencies.

Impact: The webinar raised awareness of contemporary assessment approaches and the need to adapt assessment practices to changing educational and professional contexts. It encouraged educators to consider innovative assessment methods that address AI-related challenges, enhance assessment integrity, and better prepare students for future workplace demands.

The webinar aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting effective and meaningful assessment practices; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by exploring innovative assessment approaches in response to technological developments; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by providing a platform for professional knowledge sharing and collaboration among education stakeholders.

As part of CETE’s ongoing EduTech Symposium initiative, the free and publicly accessible session supported wider knowledge sharing, professional development, and the advancement of technology-enhanced teaching, learning, and assessment.
