MNU and Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia Celebrate Saudi Cultural Day and International Arabic Language Day

18 December 2024

The Maldives National University (MNU), in collaboration with the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, celebrated Saudi Cultural Day and International Arabic Language Day, bringing together students, academics and diplomats for a vibrant programme of cultural exchange and learning.

The celebration provided a platform for members of the university community to engage with Saudi Arabian culture, heritage and the Arabic language through interactive displays, traditional heritage presentations, Arabic calligraphy and historical literature. These activities provided participants with opportunities to learn about the cultural and linguistic heritage of Saudi Arabia while developing a broader appreciation of cultural diversity.

The event also highlighted the importance of the Arabic language as a means of cultural expression, communication and knowledge exchange. Through exposure to Arabic calligraphy and historical literature, participants gained an opportunity to explore the cultural heritage associated with the Arabic language and its continuing significance in connecting communities across different countries and cultures.

The collaboration between MNU and the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia provided an opportunity to strengthen international institutional cooperation, facilitate cultural exchange and create meaningful opportunities for interaction between the university community and diplomatic representatives.

By bringing together students, academics and diplomats, the celebration encouraged cross-cultural understanding, mutual respect and appreciation of cultural diversity. It also provided students with a broader international perspective and opportunities to engage with cultural traditions beyond their immediate context.

The initiative contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by creating an educational and experiential platform through which students and members of the university community could learn about language, culture and heritage beyond the classroom. It also directly supports SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the collaboration between MNU and the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, demonstrating how institutional partnerships can facilitate cultural exchange, knowledge sharing and international cooperation. The celebration further supported the values of SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by promoting inclusion, intercultural understanding and respect for cultural diversity within the university community.
