MNU in collaboration with Université Paris Cité, University of Heidelberg and the University of Liège developed MOOC style life long learning materials for climate and environmental health education. These video lessons explore the relationship between climate change, human health, and environmental sustainability, with particular emphasis on the vulnerabilities and challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS), including the Maldives.
These videos introduce participants to the scientific foundations of climate change, historical trends, and future projections, examining how changing environmental conditions influence human health, disease patterns, and wellbeing. It incorporates the principles of planetary health and explores the ethical and social dimensions of climate change, including health inequalities and the disproportionate impacts experienced by vulnerable populations.
Through case studies and examples from the Maldives and other SIDS, participants will examine the health implications of sea-level rise, extreme weather events, infectious diseases such as dengue, non-communicable diseases, and mental health challenges. This short course also highlights the importance of climate action that delivers health co-benefits, including cleaner air, sustainable mobility, and healthier diets, alongside effective climate change communication.
