The Maldives National University Kulhudhuffushi Campus conducted a workshop on “Referencing in Academic Writing” for students. The session aimed to develop students’ understanding of accurate referencing and its role in producing quality academic work.
The workshop was facilitated by Mohamed Shamoon, Lecturer from the MNU Business School. Students were introduced to citation principles, commonly used referencing styles and the importance of acknowledging sources in academic writing.
The session highlighted academic integrity and the need to avoid plagiarism. Students explored how proper referencing gives credit to original authors and supports ethical scholarly practices.
Through practical examples and guided exercises, participants learned how to cite sources accurately and compile reference lists for assignments, reports and research projects. These activities helped students apply referencing principles to their own academic work.
The workshop was well received as a valuable learning opportunity. It strengthened students’ academic writing skills and increased their confidence in citing sources correctly and preparing academically sound submissions.
The session supported MNU Kulhudhuffushi Campus’s efforts to promote academic integrity and equip students with essential skills for their studies.
