MNU Supports Teachers’ Professional Development of Hdh.Atoll Education Center Teachers through a Session on Artificial Intelligence in Teaching

The Maldives National University (MNU) conducted a professional development session on “Using Artificial Intelligence in Teaching” for teachers of HDh. Atoll Education Centre. The programme aimed to strengthen teachers’ understanding of artificial intelligence and its practical applications in education.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Mohamed Umar from MNU’s Faculty of Education. Participants explored emerging AI tools and technologies that can support lesson planning, content creation, assessment, personalised learning and classroom engagement.

Through practical exploration of these applications, the session highlighted opportunities for teachers to improve efficiency and creativity in their work. It also examined how AI tools can support teaching approaches that respond to students’ different learning needs.

The programme addressed ethical considerations and best practices for integrating AI into teaching and learning. Emphasis was placed on maintaining academic integrity and effective teaching practices while making use of emerging technologies.

Teachers appreciated the relevance and practical nature of the session and expressed interest in applying AI tools within their teaching practice. The programme strengthened participants’ digital competencies and increased their confidence in using artificial intelligence to support teaching and learning.

The engagement provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange between MNU and school teachers, supporting continued professional development and the adoption of innovative educational practices.

The session contributes to quality education by strengthening teachers’ capacity to use technology effectively. It also supports professional skills development, innovation and institutional collaboration.
