Dr. Raheema Abdul Raheem, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Highlights Role of Graduates in Advancing Public Health and National Progress

The Maldives National University held the last session of its graduation ceremony, attended by distinguished guests, senior academic leaders, graduates, and their families, marking another significant milestone in the University’s academic calendar. Delivering her welcome remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) for Research and Enterprise, Dr. Raheema Abdul Raheem, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and congratulated the graduating students on their accomplishments.

In her keynote address, Dr. Raheema Abdul Raheem, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, congratulated the graduates and expressed appreciation to the Chief Guest, Minister Mohamed Saeed, for his contributions to national economic development and broader social progress.

The ceremony also honored two distinguished marshals: Dr. Asra Ismail, a medical graduate and current Medical Officer at Hulhumalé Hospital, and Ms. Fathimath Nahula, an accomplished academic and Senior Lecturer at MNU who is currently pursuing her PhD.

Addressing graduates, Dr. Raheema highlighted key challenges facing the health sector, including non-communicable diseases, mental health issues, emerging infections, and climate-related impacts. She encouraged graduates to move beyond clinical practice and adopt a broader, preventive, and collaborative approach to healthcare that addresses root causes and strengthens community well-being.

She concluded the speech by urging graduates to become proactive health leaders and to contribute meaningfully to national development through ethical practice, compassion, and interdisciplinary collaboration, in line with the Maldives National University’s commitment to nurturing competent, responsible, and service-oriented professionals.
