The Maldives National University (MNU), as part of its “Know Your University” initiative, hosted an engaging showcase by the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) on 10 September 2026 under the theme “Discover CFS: The Foundation Behind Every Graduate.” The initiative brought together staff and students from across MNU to explore the vital role of Foundation Studies in supporting student success and fostering academic excellence.
Held at the CFS premises, the initiative provided an engaging and interactive experience designed to strengthen awareness of CFS programmes, services, and contributions to the University’s academic mission. Through a series of creative learning stations and collaborative activities, visitors gained a deeper understanding of how Foundation Studies prepares students for the challenges of higher education and supports their transition into degree programmes across the University.
A key feature was the Digital Discovery Wall, which enabled participants to learn about CFS academic and professional staff, programme offerings, and student support initiatives through interactive digital content. Visitors also explored the Student Journey Map, illustrating the progression from secondary education to Foundation Studies, onward to undergraduate programmes, and ultimately to successful graduation and professional contribution. The display highlighted the development of essential graduate attributes, including critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration, research skills, and lifelong learning.
The initiative encouraged active participation through a variety of interactive stations. The Foundation Myth Busters: Fact or Fiction activity provided an opportunity for visitors to challenge common misconceptions about Foundation Studies and gain a clearer understanding of its purpose and impact. At the CFS Collaboration Café, participants engaged in meaningful discussions on student readiness, graduate attributes, and opportunities for collaboration across faculties and academic units.
Visitors were also invited to contribute their ideas and reflections through the Reflection Wall, creating a platform for dialogue, feedback, and future partnerships. To enhance engagement, participants collected stamps from each activity station and entered a lucky draw upon completing their activity passport, creating an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
The initiative embodied the spirit of One MNU by promoting greater understanding, connection, and collaboration among the University’s diverse academic community. By providing an opportunity for colleagues and students to learn more about CFS, the Know Your University initiative showcased the Centre’s role as a foundational pillar of the MNU student experience and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting academic success throughout the educational journey.
The initiative aligns closely with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly through its focus on strengthening awareness of higher education pathways, supporting student preparedness, and promoting inclusive educational opportunities. It also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and stronger connections among faculties, centres, and departments within the University.
The Centre for Foundation Studies extends its appreciation to all staff and students who participated in the Know Your University initiative and contributed to making it a meaningful celebration of learning, collaboration, and the shared vision of educational excellence at MNU.
