Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu Inspires MNU Graduates with Call for National Service

Date: 30th April 2026

The Maldives National University (MNU) was honored to welcome the Guest of Honour, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, who delivered a compelling and heartfelt address at the University’s graduation ceremony.

In his remarks, the Minister extended warm congratulations to the graduates, describing the occasion as a moment of profound joy and achievement. Reflecting on his personal connection to the institution as an alumnus of the former Maldives College of Higher Education, he expressed deep appreciation for MNU’s continued role in shaping the nation’s future through education.

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Shafeeu underscored the enduring value of human capital in national development. Drawing inspiration from an account in Islamic history involving Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), he highlighted that the strength of a nation lies not in material wealth, but in the presence of capable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable individuals. He encouraged graduates to embody these qualities and to view themselves as future leaders entrusted with advancing the Maldives.

The Minister further emphasized that the education and training provided at MNU represent a significant investment in each graduate. He noted that the knowledge gained, the guidance received from lecturers, and the values instilled throughout their academic journey are of far greater value than the qualifications they receive.

Reaffirming the University’s mission, he highlighted the importance of integrity, honesty, and a strong sense of national service. Dr. Shafeeu urged graduates to use their education to contribute meaningfully to society and to strive toward building a prosperous and resilient nation.

The Maldives National University takes pride in its graduates and remains committed to nurturing individuals who will lead with knowledge, character, and purpose. The University also extends its appreciation to its dedicated faculty and staff for their invaluable contributions to student success.
