The Maldives National University (MNU) today held the second edition of the Undergraduate Student Research Symposium (USRS) 2026, providing a platform for undergraduate students to showcase their research and engage with faculty members, evaluators, and fellow students.
A total of 31 abstracts were accepted for this year’s symposium, with 19 students presenting their research during the event. The presentations covered a range of academic areas, reflecting the diverse research interests and capabilities of MNU’s undergraduate students.
The symposium provided students with an opportunity to communicate their research findings, receive feedback from evaluators and academic staff, and gain valuable experience in presenting their ideas in an academic setting. The platform also aims to strengthen students’ confidence and encourage greater interest in research and academic pursuits.
USRS is organised by MNU as part of its ongoing efforts to foster a strong research culture among students and encourage them to engage in research from the early stages of their academic journey. Through the symposium, students are introduced to the processes of developing research ideas, presenting academic work, and engaging in discussions with members of the university’s academic community.
Beyond the presentations, the symposium also creates opportunities for undergraduate students to connect with lecturers and fellow researchers, gain experience that can support their future academic and professional pathways, and become more active contributors to MNU’s growing research community.
The Maldives National University remains committed to creating opportunities that nurture curiosity, innovation, and academic excellence among its students. Through initiatives such as USRS, MNU continues to encourage its undergraduate community to explore new ideas, undertake meaningful research, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.
