The Maldives National University (MNU) successfully conducted the third webinar in its EduTech Webinar Series on 16 December 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The session aimed to explore how technology can advance education, with a particular focus on language learning.

Titled “Revolutionising Language Learning through Technology,” the webinar attracted 25 participants and provided a platform to explore innovative approaches to language teaching and learning through digital technologies.

The session featured Fathimath Nasiha Abdul Muhaimin, Senior Lecturer at MNU and Head of the Centre for Foundation Studies, as a panellist. She has been teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at MNU since 2011 and holds a Master of Education from La Trobe University, Australia.

The webinar, which was free and open to the public, highlighted several important areas, including:

Innovative tools and platforms that can support language learning.
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), gamification, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance language learning experiences.
Collaborative learning in online environments, emerging challenges, and future trends in technology-enhanced language education.

Impact: The webinar aimed to increase awareness of emerging technologies for language learning, encourage the exploration of innovative teaching strategies, and highlight opportunities to create more engaging and interactive language learning experiences.

The webinar aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting innovative and accessible language learning opportunities; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by highlighting the application of emerging technologies in education; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by encouraging knowledge sharing and collaboration among education stakeholders.

The session formed part of MNU’s ongoing EduTech Symposium initiative to promote professional development, educational innovation, and the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning.
