During the research visit to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, the Centre for Maritime Studies (CMS), The Maldives National University, met with representatives of Hoandedhdhoo Council to introduce the faculty, its maritime education and professional training programmes, and discuss opportunities for future collaboration. The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships between higher education and local government to improve access to maritime education, support community development, and identify future training and research opportunities relevant to island communities. Such engagements help ensure that educational programmes respond to local development priorities while promoting sustainable growth of the maritime sector. The discussion also established a platform for future collaborative initiatives benefiting both the Council and CMS. This activity demonstrates the University’s commitment to building strong partnerships that support sustainable communities and expand educational opportunities across the Maldives.
