Regional Hub for Asia Climate Change and Health (REACH)

6, 7, 8 and 9 April 2026

The Maldives National University is pleased to announce participation in the Regional Hub for Asia Climate Change and Health (REACH), a collaborative research initiative focused on addressing the health impacts of climate change across South and Southeast Asia.

The REACH project is implemented in partnership with Monash University Malaysia and the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health and is funded by the International Development Research Centre and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

As climate change continues to pose significant and evolving risks to human health, particularly in vulnerable regions, the REACH initiative aims to generate evidence-based research to better understand these impacts and inform effective responses. The project places strong emphasis on promoting climate literacy, strengthening community engagement and response, and enhancing the resilience of health systems across the region.

A central focus of REACH is to support populations most at risk from climate-related health challenges, including women and children, older adults, Indigenous communities, and other climate-vulnerable groups. Through targeted research and regional collaboration, the initiative seeks to advance inclusive and sustainable solutions.

Through its involvement, MNU will contribute its expertise in research, education, and community outreach to support both national and regional efforts in addressing climate change and health. This partnership reflects MNU’s continued commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering regional collaboration, and supporting resilience-building efforts in the Maldives and beyond.

The REACH initiative is expected to play a vital role in shaping future policies and interventions aimed at mitigating the health impacts of climate change across South and Southeast Asia.
