The “Roll Up Your Sleeves” (Athukuri Olhaalamah) Campaign, initiated by students of the Bachelor of Arts in Media and Public Relations programme at The Maldives National University (MNU), is hosting a Blood Group Testing Camp today from 13:00 to 18:00 at the MNU campus.
The campaign aims to provide a convenient opportunity for individuals to discover their blood group, raise awareness on the importance of blood donation, and encourage the public to register on the Lay App, a digital platform supporting blood donation services in the Maldives.
As part of the camp, participants can get their blood group tested and will also receive exclusive discounts from eZepp upon downloading the Lay App. The campaign organizers have especially urged those who are unaware of their blood group to make use of this valuable service.
The “Roll Up Your Sleeves” campaign has gained notable traction on social media, with the student team actively engaging the public through various awareness and community activities. Today’s blood testing event is one of several initiatives being conducted under this campaign.
According to the campaign team, the name “Athukuri Olhaalamah” was chosen to symbolize unity and collective effort — a call for the nation to roll up their sleeves together in support of life-saving blood donation. The initiative seeks to strengthen community participation in health-related causes and promote a culture of voluntary blood donation across the Maldives.
The campaign’s objectives also focus on increasing the percentage of voluntary blood donors by raising awareness on the critical need for blood within the community, educating the public on the health benefits of donating blood, and transforming existing perceptions around the process of blood donation.
The “Roll Up Your Sleeves” campaign is carried out in collaboration with Ahee Jamiyya, Lay App, Maldivian Blood Service, MNU Student Union, and the Thalassemia Society, reflecting a strong multi-organizational effort to build a healthier, more compassionate generation willing to donate blood.
