Lecturer Ms. Hashma Adnan from the Hospitality Management Department of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) of The Maldives National University (MNU) participated in a hands-on training exchange at Dreamland Maldives, gaining direct exposure to the operational environment of a working resort.

During the exchange, Ms. Hashma engaged with housekeeping operations and delivered training sessions covering hygiene practices, laundry operations, front office procedures, communication and teamwork. The experience provided an opportunity to engage directly with resort operations while contributing academic and professional knowledge to workplace learning.

The training exchange provided a platform for knowledge sharing between academia and industry.  Direct exposure to resort operations also provided an opportunity to enhance understanding of current workplace procedures, service expectations and operational practices across different areas of hospitality management.

The experience enhanced Ms. Hashma’s industry knowledge and understanding of resort operations, particularly in housekeeping, hygiene, laundry, front office procedures, communication and teamwork, while suppporting professional development through continued engagement with workplace practices and industry-based learning.

Such opportunities contribute to lifelong learning and strengthen industry links by creating opportunities for academic staff to engage with the world of work and share knowledge with industry practitioners. Through continued academia–industry engagement, FHTS supports the development of relevant knowledge and skills while contributing to stronger connections between higher education and the hospitality sector.
