Dr. Hussain Haleem Donates Three Authored Books to MNU Library

Dr. Hussain Haleem, widely known as Kuda Husen, has donated three of his authored books to The Maldives National University Library.

Two of the donated books reflect on his sporting career and present his perspectives on the development of sport in the Maldives. The third book focuses on the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. These publications will enrich the Library’s collection and provide valuable resources for students, researchers and readers interested in sport, national development and Islamic studies.

Dr. Haleem is a distinguished Maldivian athlete, coach, academic and former marathon record holder. He represented the Maldives in the men’s marathon at both the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

He earned a PhD in Sports Science from the University of Otago, New Zealand, under an Olympic scholarship, specialising in the sociology of sports coaching. He has also pursued postgraduate studies in Olympic Studies at the University of Peloponnese.

Dr. Haleem currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching at Sultan Idris Education University in Perak, Malaysia. His responsibilities include teaching physical education, sports science and sports sociology, as well as developing and training sports teachers and coaches. He also coaches the University’s athletics team and supports the training of state-level runners in Perak.

In addition to his achievements in sport and academia, Dr. Haleem served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Maldives National Defence Force. He has also contributed to national sports administration as Vice President of the Maldives Olympic Committee and as a member of the National Sports Council.

MNU Library sincerely thanks Dr. Hussain Haleem for his generous donation and for sharing his knowledge, experiences and perspectives with the University community. His contribution will help preserve locally authored knowledge while supporting learning and research across multiple disciplines.
