The Maldives National University (MNU), through its Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), successfully conducted a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session titled “Advancing Infection Prevention and Control” on 29 August 2026 at Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH), Colombo, Sri Lanka. MNU FHS staff travelled to Colombo and conducted the sessions, sharing their expertise and professional knowledge in infection prevention and control with participating healthcare professionals.

The session was conducted in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Intensive Care Nurses Association, Critical Care Nursing Association of Nepal, and Infection Control Society of Nepal, bringing together healthcare professionals from across the region to strengthen knowledge and professional capacity in infection prevention and control.

The session welcomed 130 participants in person from Sri Lanka, while more than 80 participants joined online from Nepal, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The programme provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, professional learning, and cross-border collaboration, enabling healthcare professionals to share experiences and strengthen practices related to infection prevention and control.

The initiative reflects MNU’s commitment to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by supporting continuous professional development, lifelong learning, and the enhancement of specialised knowledge and skills among healthcare professionals.

The initiative contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by strengthening healthcare professionals’ knowledge and competencies in infection prevention and control, supporting safer and higher-quality healthcare practices. It also advances Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through continuous professional development, lifelong learning, and skills enhancement for healthcare professionals.

Furthermore, the initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by bringing together MNU and professional organisations from across the region to facilitate knowledge exchange, capacity building, and meaningful institutional collaboration. Through such collaborative professional development initiatives, MNU continues to contribute to better health outcomes, lifelong learning, and stronger regional partnerships.
