The Maldives National University (MNU) today held the closing ceremony of the Japanese Language Course conducted specifically for staff of Maldives Immigration, marking the successful completion of the specialised programme by 25 immigration officers.

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Her Excellency Ishigami Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Maldives, as the Chief Guest, alongside the Controller General of Immigration and Commissioner of Police (Retd.) Ahmed Faseeh.

Designed to strengthen the communication capabilities of Maldives Immigration officers, the practical course focused on developing the language skills required to interact confidently and effectively with Japanese travellers visiting the Maldives. The programme provided participants with practical, role-based learning opportunities that reflected real-world situations encountered in their professional duties.

Throughout the course, participants engaged in role plays and realistic immigration scenarios, while learning practical Japanese expressions, customer-service language and cross-cultural communication skills. These activities enabled participants to build confidence in using Japanese in professional settings and to develop a better understanding of effective communication with Japanese visitors.
