The Faculty of Arts of The Maldives National University (MNU), in collaboration with the Indian High Commission in the Maldives, organized a commemorative seminar celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India.
The seminar brought together academics, students, diplomats, and distinguished guests to reflect on the longstanding friendship, cooperation, and shared history between the two nations. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, H.E. Mr. G. Balasubramanian, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives. The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest and a viewing of a photo exhibition.
The seminar featured a series of presentations highlighting key areas of collaboration between the Maldives and India over the past six decades. Presentations focused on climate change and sustainable development, historical and cultural ties, collaboration in medical services, food security, economic development and trade, education and human resource development, as well as international relations and infrastructure development.
Students and presenters explored the depth of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the strong people-to-people connections that continue to strengthen ties between the two countries. The Chief Guest, H.E. Mr. G. Balasubramanian, also addressed the gathering, reaffirming the enduring partnership and friendship shared by the Maldives and India.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural segment featuring Indian and Maldivian dance performances, including traditional Maldivian cultural performances such as Fathi Gandu Dance, Boduberu, and traditional dance sets performed by students.
The commemorative seminar served as an important platform to celebrate the historic relationship between the Maldives and India while fostering greater understanding of the cultural, educational, and developmental partnerships shared between the two nations over the past 60 years.
