The Faculty of Arts, Maldives National University, celebrated Dhivehi Dhuvas during Term 1, 2026, providing an opportunity for university students to strengthen their appreciation of the Dhivehi language, literature and Maldivian identity. The celebration highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the national language within the university learning environment.
The activity also created a practical learning opportunity for students enrolled in Dhivehi for Professionals, enabling them to apply their Dhivehi language skills through activities undertaken as part of their academic assessment. This approach connected classroom learning with practical language use and encouraged students to engage with Dhivehi in meaningful contexts.
By promoting the use and appreciation of Dhivehi among university students, the initiative supported language learning and contributed to the continued appreciation of Maldivian linguistic and cultural heritage. The activity also provided students with opportunities to develop their communication skills while engaging with aspects of their national identity and cultural heritage.
The celebration contributes to quality education by providing practical and contextual learning opportunities, while supporting the preservation and appreciation of cultural heritage and identity within the community.
The initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4: Quality Education and 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
