The session of the #SpeakerSeries 2026 (Fahi Musthagbal)
The Maldives National University (MNU) hosted another engaging session of the MNU Speaker Series on 21 September, featuring prominent Maldivian business leader Abdul Wahid Thowfeeq, Managing Director of Dhivehi Investment Partners and a Chartered Insurer with more than three decades of experience across insurance, investment, real estate, hospitality and financial services.
Speaking on the topic “Win at the Start Line,” Wahid shared insights from his professional journey and reflected on the decisions, opportunities and challenges that shaped his path to success. Drawing on his transition from a long career at Allied Insurance, including six years as Managing Director, to building and developing his own businesses, he spoke about the importance of making purposeful decisions and having the courage to take on new challenges.
The session also explored the importance of knowing when to move forward and, equally, when to draw the line. Abdul Wahid encouraged students to understand their own boundaries, recognise opportunities, learn from experience and make decisions with a clear sense of direction. As co-founder of the Ensis Group, which expanded across fisheries, insurance, real estate and property development, hospitality and financial services, Abdul Wahid offered students a practical perspective on entrepreneurship, leadership and sustainable business growth. The session provided students with an opportunity to learn from a Maldivian business leader whose career demonstrated how thoughtful decisions, adaptability and the willingness to take calculated steps could shape a professional journey.
Through the MNU Speaker Series, the University continued to connect students with accomplished professionals and leaders, creating opportunities to learn beyond the classroom and gain perspectives that could help them navigate their own academic, professional and personal journeys. The session also contributed to MNU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education by providing students with practical learning and insights into leadership, decision-making and entrepreneurship; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by connecting students with real-world perspectives on business, professional development and entrepreneurship; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening engagement between the University and the private sector.
