The Maldives National University (MNU) and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in key areas including research, professional training and human resource development.
This partnership marks an important step in bridging academia and industry, bringing together the university’s academic expertise and the central bank’s sector knowledge to foster innovation and support the continued growth and resilience of the national financial sector.
The MoU reflects MNU’s deepening commitment to research that matters and preparing students and professionals for the demands of a rapidly evolving financial landscape. For MMA, it opens the door to fresh thinking, applied research and a stronger pipeline of skilled talent for the sector. Together, the two institutions will work towards shared goals in research, capacity building and professional development — a collaboration that stands to benefit not only both organisations but the wider Maldivian economy.
This partnership supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through professional training and lifelong learning, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening human resource development and employability in the financial sector, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through research-industry collaboration and knowledge transfer, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by building a cross-sectoral partnership between academia and a national financial institution.
