Telling Stories and Shaping Voices

I am a proud graduate of the Maldives National University (MNU), an experience that has profoundly shaped my academic and professional path in the fields of media and public relations. My passion for storytelling and understanding the influence of media on society found its true direction at MNU, where learning had no limits and every opportunity encouraged growth.

Though the journey came with its share of challenges, patience, hands-on practice, and the constant support of dedicated lecturers and peers helped transform those challenges into stepping stones. Among the many memorable experiences, the educational trip to K. Villingili remains a highlight. Working closely with some of the Maldives’ most respected journalists provided invaluable exposure, strengthened my skills, and offered a deeper understanding of the realities and responsibilities of the media landscape.

Looking ahead, I am committed to applying the knowledge and experience gained at MNU to contribute meaningfully to the media sector. I aspire to use strategic communication techniques to report ethically, communicate truthfully, raise public awareness, and strengthen community engagement.

My time at the University has also given me a clearer perspective on the evolving challenges and opportunities within the media field , from the rapid rise of digital platforms to the transformation of how audiences consume information. With this awareness, I aim to embrace innovation, harness new technologies, and deliver information through modern, impactful methods.

MNU has equipped me with the skills, values, and confidence to move forward, and I remain deeply grateful for the foundation that continues to guide my professional journey.

Growing Through Knowledge

I, Moosa Mahee, began my journey at the Maldives National University (MNU) in 2018 after completing my O-Levels. Starting with Foundation Studies and then earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics, I am now pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Management and Leadership. “The days I am spending at MNU are significantly shaping my educational and professional development. The academic environment of the university encourages me to develop critical thinking, research skills, and self-learning abilities. In this regard, during university life, I am being encouraged to engage in discussions on various topics, participate in numerous numerous workshops that facilitate personal growth, gain exposure to real-world problems, and apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways. These experiences are enhancing my problem-solving skills.”

In addition to academics, MNU has been providing me with valuable opportunities to work collaboratively with fellow students, participate in research projects, and attend academic conferences. These opportunities have helped develop my communication and leadership skills, preparing me to face the future.”

“Especially the guidance of lecturers and a supportive learning environment play a very important role in my journey.

Among the most notable experiences during my time at MNU is the recent trip to Saudi Arabia. Additionally, being selected to present my research at the 3rd Commonwealth Chemistry Congress in South Africa this May is considered an important achievement.”

A Journey of Growth and Purpose at the Maldives National University

My academic journey at The Maldives National University (MNU) has been an exceptional and life-shaping experience. It has not only transformed my professional pathway but has also strengthened my understanding of deep thinking, patience, and the true value of lifelong learning. My passion for healthcare and my desire to contribute meaningfully to the community inspired me to pursue studies in this field. As I progressed, my perspectives broadened and my confidence grew.

Although this journey came with challenges, it taught me the importance of managing time effectively, seeking support when needed, and remaining adaptable in different situations. These lessons helped me build resilience and perseverance, qualities that continue to guide me today.

Some of my most memorable moments at MNU include leading student organizations, representing the University in competitions, exploring new areas of learning, and planning initiatives that benefited the community. Each experience strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my appreciation for service.

Looking ahead, I can clearly see how the knowledge and experiences gained at MNU will shape my future contributions. This University has not only prepared me for a career but has guided me toward a life of purpose and impact.

Among my most cherished memories is the MNU Marathon. Being part of the organizing team of the first-ever MNU Marathon was a proud milestone, an experience I will remember with great joy for years to come.

Becoming a Nurse with Compassion and Purpose

My journey to becoming a nurse began with a simple dream, to serve people with compassion. Yet the path was far from easy. Financial difficulties made even basic necessities, and school supplies a challenge, and at times, continuing my studies felt uncertain.

But The Maldives National University (MNU) became more than an educational institution. It became my safe space, my support system, and the foundation upon which I rebuilt my confidence and my life. Even on the hardest days, the kindness of my lecturers and fellow students helped me move forward with hope.

Every semester brought new challenges, but with each challenge, I grew stronger, more resilient, and clearer in my purpose. MNU did not only provide me with academic knowledge, it gave me life skills, emotional strength, and the opportunity to become the woman I aspired to be. I still face difficulties, but I no longer face them alone. MNU has become a meaningful part of my story, and I hope my journey inspires others who are struggling to keep going.

One of the most transformative learning experiences for me was studying maternal health. It opened my eyes to the power of supporting women and families through compassionate healthcare. That module was more than a class, it was a turning point that deepened my passion for nursing and expanded my understanding of the impact I can make.

My educational journey at MNU has been a balance of challenges and achievements. The supportive environment and encouragement from the University gave me the courage to pursue my goals despite the obstacles. Through this experience, I learned not only scientific knowledge, but also important life lessons, self-confidence, resilience, and the strength to rise above adversity.

MNU helped shape who I am today, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Leading With Purpose Through Nursing and Service

I have always been deeply passionate about nursing, a field that continues to inspire my academic and professional journey. I began my studies at The Maldives National University (MNU) in 2018 when I enrolled in the Advanced Certificate in Nursing programme. In 2020, I progressed to the Diploma in Nursing, and by 2023, I proudly completed my Bachelor of Nursing. This year, I am completing my Master of Nursing Administration—driven by the same dedication and love I have always had for this profession.

Throughout my university life, I have aspired not only to excel academically but also to serve as a role model for other students. This commitment led me to actively participate in the activities of the MNU Students’ Union (MNUSU), where I worked to demonstrate the qualities of a responsible and confident leader.

Since 2018, I have served the Union in various leadership roles. My first position was as Vice President (Activities) of the School of Nursing branch, Niyares, in 2020 and 2021. I was later appointed President of Niyares in 2022, a role in which my top priority was creating a supportive, empowering environment for nursing students and nurturing a culture of initiative and responsibility. My leadership journey took another meaningful step forward when I was elected Vice President (Scientific) of MNUSU this year.

These positions have played a profound role in shaping my personal and professional growth. The experiences and opportunities offered through MNUSU strengthened my leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. One of the most important lessons I learned was how to balance academic commitments with extracurricular responsibilities, an ability that has made me more resilient, organised, and confident.

My journey has taught me patience, courage, and the value of leading with compassion. I am grateful to every student and colleague who supported me along the way. As I look toward the future, my goal is to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector and continue engaging in activities that uplift the university community.

I hope to remain a leader who inspires others, just as The Maldives National University has inspired me.

A Journey Shaped by Language, Imagination, and Purpose

My academic journey at The Maldives National University has been nothing short of transformative. As someone deeply passionate about languages, literature, and storytelling, I was genuinely surprised and grateful, to discover that the Maldives offered a degree that explored both linguistics and literature in such depth. Learning what language is, from its smallest unit to the ideas and structures that shape it, has been a phenomenal experience. Literature, which has always held a special place in my heart, became even more meaningful through this academic lens. At the same time, the programme has shown me what it truly means to be a teacher in today’s Maldivian context and how these skills can be applied not only in schools but also within the wider academic community, where I ultimately aspire to work.

At heart, I am a writer. Writing is how I breathe, how I imagine, and how I make sense of the world. Fantasy is my home, though I enjoy writing in many forms. I chose this course to learn more about creative writing, to understand fiction more deeply, and to one day teach writing to others. Along the way, this journey broadened beyond anything I expected. What began as a desire to teach creative writing has grown into a vision for shaping English language education and even the future of education in the Maldives.

Studying has never come naturally to me. I was not the typical studious secondary school student, nor did I excel in the traditional ways during higher secondary. But along this path I realised something essential: studying is personal, individual, deeply subjective. Passion changes everything. The modules I loved and excelled in; the ones I found challenging became opportunities to learn discipline and to understand how each part contributes to a larger purpose.

Debate has always been part of my identity. The MNUSU Debate Competition 2024 remains one of the most memorable chapters of my university life. Working alongside students I had previously taught, growing together through each round, learning new perspectives and styles of argumentation, these were defining experiences. Winning the competition and receiving the award for Best Debater in the final round marked a moment of immense pride and self-discovery.

Above all, I will always write. My dream is to publish fantasy novels. Everything I have learned here has brought me closer to that dream. Over the past three years, I have not only written—I’ve built worlds. I’ve created a fictional language for my stories, experimented with writing styles, and discovered techniques I never knew existed. As I prepare to graduate, I intend to continue writing, applying all this new knowledge, and passing it on. I hope to inspire the next generation to love literature, language, and poetry as much as I do, whether as a teacher, a writer, or perhaps one day, as a lecturer at The Maldives National University.

Only time will tell but I am ready for the journey ahead.

Jaish Ali Waheed

Student Union - President

For me, studying at the Maldives National University has been a journey far more rewarding than I ever imagined. After completing my Diploma and Degree in International Hospitality Management, I recently achieved my Master of Business Administration, a milestone that reflects the strong academic foundation and opportunities I received at MNU. I truly believe that the quality of education offered here is unmatched by any other institution in the country.

Today, I have the honour of serving as the President of the MNU Students’ Union, a role that has shaped my leadership and strengthened my commitment to creating enriching, sustainable, and “green” experiences for all students. Balancing academic work with my responsibilities in the Union has helped me grow in communication, decision-making, and service, lessons that will remain with me throughout my career.

I am especially grateful for the University management’s openness and their genuine effort to maintain a strong relationship with students. Their commitment to listening, supporting, and addressing student concerns reflects a culture of care and accountability. The development of student-centred policies, such as the Student Voice Policy, along with structured platforms like panel meetings and quality assurance discussions, demonstrates the University’s dedication to empowering students and ensuring their voices are heard.

As I look ahead, my hope is that the Maldives National University continues to grow, innovate, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with leading universities around the world. I believe every student who studies here has the potential to experience the same fulfilling and transformative educational journey that I have been fortunate to receive.

The Maldives National University is a place that shapes futures and I am proud to be part of its story.

Growing Through Leadership

I began my Bachelor of Teaching in English at the Faculty of Education about four years after completing my A Levels. After finishing school, I spent several years exploring different opportunities and gaining experience, including working as a relief teacher at GDh. Rathafandhoo School. In 2024, I now stand in the final year of my first degree, grateful for the many people I have met and the diverse experiences that have shaped me along the way.

I believe one of the greatest reasons for these opportunities has been my involvement in the Maldives National University Students’ Union. Beyond academics, participating in the Union’s activities has been both a privilege and a source of immense personal growth. The leadership skills I have developed through this journey reaffirm that university life is far more than what is learned inside a classroom.

Today, I serve as the Vice President of the MNU Students’ Union, a role that allows me to support students, strengthen relationships, and help create a positive learning environment. I hope to be a friend and guide to students who come to the University in search of skills that will shape their future. My own experiences show that engaging in student leadership and extracurricular activities enriches education in powerful ways.

I aspire to be an exemplary student and a source of encouragement for others. I firmly believe that the Maldives National University will continue to grow as the most respected and comprehensive institution of higher education in the country. May every student who studies here find success, and may God bless our collective efforts and grant this University an even brighter future.

Shaping the Future Through Learning and Leadership

I began my academic journey at the Maldives National University in August 2020, enrolling in the Foundation Level 4 Business course at the Centre for Foundation Studies. After completing the program in 2021, I continued my studies at MNU Business School, where I am now pursuing a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance.

Choosing to study at MNU has been one of the best decisions of my academic life. Alongside my coursework, I have been able to participate in a wide range of activities that have strengthened my confidence, broadened my skills, and enriched my university experience. My involvement in the Students’ Union has been especially transformative, and today I proudly serve as the Vice President of the Executive Committee.

Being part of the Union has shown me that university life is most fulfilling when we learn beyond the classroom. It has helped me develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, essential abilities that will benefit me long after graduation. I am grateful that MNU supports students by providing so many opportunities to grow both academically and personally.

The University’s management maintains a close and supportive relationship with students, always working to address their concerns and create an empowering environment. The policies put in place to uplift and strengthen students are commendable and reflect the University’s commitment to our success.

I believe that the Maldives National University is on a path to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with leading universities around the world. I pray that every student who studies here finds happiness, opportunity, and success and may God bless this University with an even brighter future.

A Journey of Service, Leadership, and Aspiration

I began my university journey at the Maldives National University in November 2018 when I joined the newly established Doctor of Medicine programme at the School of Medicine. As one of the first students in this pioneering course, I felt both excitement and responsibility as we stepped into a new era of medical education in the Maldives.

During my first year, I was introduced to the Maldives National University Students’ Union (MNUSU). A conversation with the then President, Arshad Ashraf, sparked the idea of forming a branch for medical students. Together with my batchmates, we worked to make this vision a reality, and in 2019, the Consortium of Medical Students,  “Medicos” was officially established.

With the full support of my executive committee, our small group began participating actively in student activities. In 2020, I had the honour of serving as President of Medicos. During my term, we focused on raising public awareness on health issues, conducting several social media campaigns to educate and empower our community. After completing my second term, I stepped down from the presidency to dedicate more time to my studies as I prepared for the demanding clinical years ahead.

In 2023, I was elected Vice President of the 11th term of the Students’ Union, a role I accepted with gratitude and humility. I extend my heartfelt thanks to former MNUSU Presidents, Arshad Ashraf and Mohamed Shahneez, for their confidence in me, and to the 11th term President, Jaish Ali Waheed, for his constant support and guidance.

As I now focus more deeply on my academic journey and prepare for my final examinations, my hope is to graduate as part of the very first batch of doctors trained at the Maldives National University. It is a privilege to be part of this historic milestone, and I look forward to serving my country with the knowledge, skills, and values nurtured during my years at MNU.

A Journey of Growth, Service, and Leadership

I began my academic journey at the Maldives National University in 2016, enrolling in my first semester with a strong interest in pursuing nursing at the Laamu Gan Campus. Over the years, my studies have taken me across several MNU campuses — from Thinadhoo to Kulhudhuffushi — each experience strengthening my knowledge, resilience, and commitment to my chosen field. Today, I am completing my Diploma in Nursing at the School of Nursing in Malé.

I chose MNU because it is the most trusted and well-established institution in the Maldives, especially in the field of health sciences. As the nation’s first university, MNU has played a defining role in producing skilled, responsible, and service-minded professionals who contribute meaningfully to the country. Being part of this legacy is something I value deeply.

Throughout my time here, I have always believed that university life should extend beyond the classroom. Sharing one’s talents, contributing to society, and engaging with the wider university community creates a well-rounded and fulfilling student experience. The Maldives National University Students’ Union (MNUSU) has given me the opportunity to do exactly that.

It has been an honour to serve the Student Union in various roles, including Treasurer of campus branches and, for two consecutive years, Treasurer of the MNUSU Executive Committee. I am sincerely grateful to former President Hussain Zayed and current President Jaish Ali Waheed for placing their trust in me to manage the Union’s finances. I also extend heartfelt thanks to the Advisory Board for their guidance and support in planning and strengthening student activities.

My journey has taught me that it is entirely possible to excel academically while actively participating in extracurricular work — with courage, organisation, and determination. These experiences have shaped me into a more confident, capable, and community-minded individual.

I wish the Maldives National University continued success and a bright future ahead, and I hope the Students’ Union continues to grow stronger, inspiring many more students in the years to come.

Growing Through Leadership and Service

I joined the Maldives National University in 2019 with hopeful expectations, and this journey has become increasingly meaningful as I became actively involved in university activities and the Maldives National University Students’ Union (MNUSU). Meeting people of different temperaments and backgrounds has enriched my experience and contributed greatly to my personal growth.

After completing my Bachelor of Psychology, I had the honour of serving as the Vice President of Academics and later as the President of the Healers Branch of the Union. I am deeply grateful to the former Presidents of MNUSU for their guidance, and especially to the current President, Jaish Ali Waheed, for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to serve.

As a member of the Executive Committee, I work closely with students in a friendly, supportive environment, helping address concerns in collaboration with University management. Together with fellow committee members and the MNUSU Advisory Board, we strive to create meaningful opportunities that support student development and make university life a joyful and memorable experience.

I firmly believe that the true purpose of higher education is achieved not only through academic study but also through active participation in extracurricular activities. With sincere effort and faith, success is always attainable.

My hope is to become a useful servant of this nation after graduation and to carry the name of the Maldives National University with pride. May Allah grant both MNU and the Students’ Union a future even brighter than today.

Shaping Leadership and Service Through the MNU Student Experience

I began my higher education journey at the Maldives National University in 2021 at the Hithadhoo Campus, driven by a strong determination to pursue a degree in Political Science and one day serve my country and its people. In 2022, I had the honour of becoming the President of the Dhondheeni Wing of the MNU Students’ Union at Hithadhoo Campus. My goal at the time was clear—to create opportunities for students to engage in meaningful activities beyond their academic work.

After my term as President of the Dhondheeni Wing, I continued my service journey by taking on the role of Secretary of the Business School Student Association in 2023. Today, I proudly serve as the Secretary of the Maldives National University Students’ Union for its 11th term. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the President of MNUSU, Jaish Ali Waheed, for believing in me and granting me the opportunity to contribute at this level.

I firmly believe that the Students’ Union plays an essential role as a key stakeholder in MNU’s mission to build a stronger nation. My sincere advice to every student graduating from this university is to carry with them a commitment to serving the country with integrity and purpose. May we all strive to make meaningful contributions to our communities and uphold the values of the Maldives National University.

Navigating the Sea of Knowledge Through Service and Growth

Since 2020, I have been on a journey across the vast sea of knowledge, sometimes sailing through calm, blue skies, and at other times facing challenges, joy, and uncertainty. With Riya by my side, each day brought a new lesson and a new horizon. Yet, I never imagined that this journey would eventually anchor me among the leaders of the Maldives National University Students’ Union. Reaching this shore marked the beginning of many valuable lessons that have helped shape my life with greater wisdom and purpose.

In 2024, I joined MNUSU as an Assistant Secretariat in its first term. From the beginning, I prioritised supporting the Union’s activities and working closely with students in a warm, friendly, and uplifting environment. This role has allowed me to contribute meaningfully while continuing my own learning journey.

Before concluding, I would like to offer a heartfelt piece of advice to all students: enrich your university life by making the most of the opportunities around you. If you wish to strengthen your skills, build confidence, and broaden your abilities, the Students’ Union is one of the best platforms to do so.

I pray that God blesses all our efforts and grants the Maldives National University a future even brighter than today.

A Journey of Purpose, Opportunity, and Growth

The Maldives National University became the guiding hand that helped turn my dream of becoming a doctor and returning to serve my island, into a reality. This golden opportunity allowed me to pursue my studies without leaving behind my family, my community, or the familiar environment where I grew up. Choosing to place my trust in the National University and join its oldest and most established faculty remains one of the best decisions of my life.

From the moment I first stepped into the university, I found myself surrounded by a sea of opportunities. There were abundant resources for academic growth, and I had the privilege of learning from highly competent, experienced, and respected doctors and professors. Each day offered a chance to strengthen skills I had been building since childhood, with teachers who were always ready to guide and encourage us beyond the classroom.

I have always believed that university life is much more than attending lectures or earning grades. It is a formative chapter where young people prepare themselves for the responsibilities of life. One of the greatest platforms that opened doors to such experiences was the Maldives National University Students’ Union. Through the Medicos branch, I had the chance to participate in volleyball and football tournaments, debate and Quran competitions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and countless activities that built friendships and developed confidence.

As I complete my third year and prepare to step into the fourth, my greatest hope is to continue seizing every opportunity—academic, social, and personal—and to one day become a proud graduate who serves both the University and the nation with integrity and dedication.

Leading with Purpose, Growing with Every Opportunity

My journey at the Maldives National University began in 2018 when I joined the Advanced Certificate in Nursing programme. I later progressed to the Diploma in Nursing in 2020, and in 2023, I proudly completed my Bachelor of Nursing. This year, I am completing my Master’s degree, driven by a deep passion for the nursing profession and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Throughout my academic journey, I have always aimed to set a positive example for other students. Alongside my studies, I dedicated myself to active participation in the Maldives National University Students’ Union, demonstrating the qualities of a strong and compassionate leader. Since 2018, the Union has been a platform that shaped my growth in countless ways.

I first served as the Vice President of the School of Nursing branch, Niyares, in 2020 and 2021. After completing this term, I was honoured to take on the role of President of Niyares in 2022. In this position, my main priority was to create a supportive environment for nursing students, an environment that encouraged initiative, confidence, and leadership. My commitment to student development was further strengthened when I was elected Vice President of MNuSU this year.

Serving in these roles has been a powerful opportunity for personal and professional development. Through the responsibilities and activities of the Union, I have strengthened my leadership abilities, learned the art of patience, and gained the confidence to navigate diverse situations with courage and resilience. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with extracurricular commitments.

I have reached this stage with the support and encouragement of many individuals, and I am deeply grateful to every student who has stood by me. As I look ahead, my goal is to contribute meaningfully to the health sector and remain actively involved in initiatives that uplift the MNU community. I hope to continue growing as a leader and to inspire others, just as I have been inspired throughout my journey.
