Responsible gardening outreach takes practical sustainability learning to Meedhoo

17 MAY 2026

Around 50 participants joined a community-facing session on gardening, plant care and responsible use of resources.

The activity took practical learning beyond HC and into Meedhoo. In an island setting, knowledge of gardening and plant care is closely connected to household food production, resilience, and the careful use of limited land and inputs.

The outreach also connected community learning with the campus’s developing work on gardening and composting. It shows how HC can use local experience and university engagement to support practical conversations about food-growing and resource responsibility.

Through this work, MNU Hithadhoo Campus contributed directly to SDG 2 – Zero Hunger, particularly Target 2.4 on sustainable and resilient food-production practices. The activity also supported SDG 4 – Quality Education; SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production; SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. Within the MNU Strategic Plan 2026–2030, it advanced Goal 5 – Building a Sustainable and Resilient MNU; Goal 7 – Wider Engagement with Society.
