University Research Grants

MNU Research Grants

The Maldives National University began awarding research grants in 2014 to support and strengthen the university’s research culture. These grants are intended to promote scholarly research by providing financial support to deserving research projects.

Research grants are open to:

  • All full-time MNU staff, and
  • Full-time MNU students enrolled in a higher degree program.

Research Grants 2025, Call 2

The second call for applications for the University Research Grants 2025 is now open. This opportunity is open to all MNU staff interested in conducting research, as well as students who wish to undertake research. There are three categories of research grants.  

  1. Small Grants: amount of money awarded is up to MVR 10,000.
  2. Medium Grants: amount of money awarded is between MVR 10,001 and MVR 100,000.
  3. Large Grants: amount of money awarded is between MVR 100,001 and MVR 1,000,000.

All full-time staff and postgraduate research students of the Maldives National University are eligible to apply for grants to conduct research of their interest. The Research Grants Committee will evaluate the proposals against the evaluation criteria and selected ones will be awarded.

Interested individuals should carefully fill and submit the application form via email on or before  23:59 hours on 31st August 2025 with the required documentation, addressed to the “Chair of the University Research Grants Committee”. Please email your application form and all the documentation to research@mnu.edu.mv

Research grants application, sample proposals and other information can be downloaded from the website, https://mnu.edu.mv/research-development/research-grants/.

Importance will be given to proposals that contribute to SDGs and research areas prioritized by the government.

URG Application

Applicants are required to fill two forms: one for the purpose of RDO administrative purpose and one for the URG evaluation purpose. Two forms are required for the URG application
