The Maldives National University (MNU) and The Maumoon Foundation have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing academic cooperation, safeguarding intellectual heritage, and fostering religious and social values within the wider community.
The agreement was formalized during a special signing ceremony held at the university. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Foundation by its Vice Chairman, Ahmed Faris Maumoon, while Vice Chancellor Aishath Shehenaz Adam signed on behalf of MNU.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Foundation’s Vice Chairman announced the revival of its scholarship programme and highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a dedicated archival facility. He noted that MNU will play a key role in this initiative by providing technical expertise and professional guidance. He also conveyed his appreciation to the university for facilitating the partnership within a notably short timeframe.
In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor described the MoU as a meaningful milestone in advancing academic excellence and preserving the Maldives’ intellectual legacy. She emphasized that the literary, historical, and scholarly works of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom represent a priceless national treasure, adding that their inclusion in the university library greatly enhances MNU’s academic resources and research capacity.
Dr. Shehenaz further underscored that the agreement will open scholarship opportunities for students enrolled in the Master of Education in Leadership programme. She expressed confidence that this collaboration will contribute to nurturing ethical values, strengthening leadership competencies, and fostering civic responsibility among students.
Overall, the partnership reflects MNU’s continued commitment to advancing higher education in the Maldives while supporting national initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting the country’s historical and intellectual heritage.
