MNU Marks Mental Health Day 2026 with Art, Expression and Well-being Activities

25th October 2026

The Maldives National University (MNU) marked Mental Health Day 2026 under the theme “REAL VOICES, REAL CHANGE – Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” promoting mental health awareness, creative expression, and a supportive university community. For the first time, the occasion was marked through a central university-wide celebration, alongside activities organised across MNU’s regional campuses.

The Vice-Chancellor attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest, which featured the presentation of awards to the winners of the Mental Health Day art competition. The competition provided students with an opportunity to express their perspectives and lived experiences through art, encouraging greater understanding and open conversations about mental health. MNU extends its sincere appreciation to Little Fino for generously sponsoring the winners.

The celebration also featured exhibitions of expressive writing by students and staff, the Feelings Tree, and expressive bench poetry, providing opportunities for members of the university community to share their thoughts and emotions through creative expression. In addition, MNU libraries across the regional campuses are organising activities such as puzzles, doodling, and other relaxing engagements to encourage students and staff to participate in activities that support emotional well-being.

Through these initiatives, MNU continues to promote a university environment where mental health awareness, self-expression, and mutual understanding are encouraged. By providing opportunities for students and staff to express themselves creatively and engage in well-being activities, the University reinforces the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive campus community.

These initiatives contribute to broader development priorities by raising awareness of mental health and well-being, encouraging a positive learning environment, and promoting participation and a sense of belonging among students and staff across the University’s central and regional campuses.
