MNU Strengthens Administrative Leadership Through Supervisory Skills Training

08 September 2026

The Maldives National University (MNU) has reinforced its commitment to effective institutional management and workforce development through a professional development workshop on “Leadership and Supervisory Skills,” aimed at equipping administrative heads and senior administrators with practical competencies to strengthen team performance, decision-making, and organisational coordination.

Facilitated by Aishath Shaaheen, the workshop addressed the growing importance of effective leadership in managing complex administrative responsibilities and maintaining responsive university services. The programme focused on strengthening supervisory practices that promote accountability, professional collaboration, and efficient workplace operations.

A central focus of the training was developing participants’ abilities to delegate responsibilities effectively, establish clear expectations, and prioritise workloads. The workshop explored how structured decision-making and appropriate task allocation can help administrative leaders manage competing demands while ensuring that teams remain focused on institutional objectives.

The programme also highlighted the importance of constructive performance feedback in supporting employee development and maintaining accountability. Participants explored supervisory approaches that encourage open communication, clarify performance expectations, and create opportunities for continuous professional improvement.

Managing workplace challenges formed another key component of the session, with particular attention given to resolving conflicts between departments and improving workflows under pressure. By connecting leadership principles with practical administrative scenarios, the workshop encouraged collaborative problem-solving and more effective coordination across university sections.

Beyond individual management skills, the training underscored the role of strong supervisory leadership in fostering a positive and productive workplace culture. Effective leadership can strengthen employee engagement, encourage shared responsibility, and support the consistent delivery of administrative services to students, academic staff, and other stakeholders.

The initiative further highlighted the importance of investing in leadership development as part of broader institutional capacity-building efforts. By equipping administrative heads and senior personnel with practical management strategies, MNU aims to strengthen operational resilience, improve communication between departments, and promote more accountable and responsive university administration.

Aligned with priorities of quality education, lifelong learning, decent work, effective leadership, professional capacity development, institutional accountability, collaborative partnerships, and strong institutions, the workshop reflects MNU’s continued efforts to build a capable, confident, and future-ready administrative workforce that supports sustainable institutional development.
