The Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), participated in SSTV’s Sai Gadi programme on 9 July 2025 as part of its efforts to increase public awareness of higher education opportunities and their relevance to future study and career pathways.

Representing MNU, Hawwa Wajudha and Fathimath Nashfa, lecturers from the Department of Social Sciences, shared information about the Department’s academic programmes, with particular emphasis on Library and Information Science. The engagement provided prospective students and members of the wider community with information on available programmes, study pathways, and potential career opportunities within the information services sector.

The media outreach provided an accessible platform for sharing information about higher education and professional development opportunities with a wider audience. By communicating programme information through a public media platform, the initiative helped prospective learners gain a clearer understanding of available academic pathways and the skills and knowledge associated with careers in Library and Information Science.

The engagement also highlighted the connection between academic learning and employment pathways, encouraging prospective students to consider how specialised higher education can support the development of professional knowledge and skills relevant to the information services sector.

By making information about academic programmes and career pathways more accessible, the initiative supported informed educational decision-making among prospective students. It also strengthened engagement between MNU and the wider community by creating an opportunity for the University to communicate directly with potential learners about available educational opportunities.

The initiative reflects the Faculty of Arts’ commitment to accessible higher education information, lifelong learning, professional skills development, and community engagement. Through public outreach and communication, the Department of Social Sciences continues to support prospective learners in making informed decisions about their education and future career pathways.

The initiative contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by increasing access to information about higher education and learning pathways, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by highlighting education and career opportunities in the information services sector, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by making higher education information accessible to a wider community through public media, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by supporting informed decision-making through accessible and reliable educational information.
