Bachelor of Teaching Students Visit the National Museum

28 September 2025

On 28th September 2025, Senior Lecturer Dr. Mohamed Shareef, accompanied by 29 students, visited the National Museum to explore Maldivian history, culture, and heritage through direct engagement with museum collections and cultural resources.

The visit provided an experiential and context-based learning opportunity, allowing students to connect academic knowledge with authentic historical and cultural resources. Through the museum’s collections, students developed a deeper understanding of Maldivian national identity, historical heritage, cultural traditions, and the importance of preserving and protecting cultural resources.

The activity promoted quality and inclusive education by extending learning beyond the classroom and encouraging students to engage directly with primary cultural and historical resources. It also fostered greater appreciation for cultural heritage preservation, community identity, and the role of heritage institutions in sustaining cultural knowledge for future generations.

The visit further highlighted the value of partnerships between educational institutions and cultural organisations, demonstrating how museums and other heritage institutions can serve as valuable learning resources. The experience provided future educators with practical approaches to incorporating local history, culture, heritage, and place-based learning into their teaching.
