The School of Nursing at the Maldives National University MNU Kulhudhuffushi Campus celebrated International Nurses’ Week 2024 from 12th to 18th May through activities recognising nurses’ contributions, strengthening professional values and encouraging community service.

As part of the celebrations, nursing students distributed appreciation gifts to nurses at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. The gesture expressed gratitude for their dedication and service, while giving students an opportunity to recognise the contribution of practising nurses to the community.

An information session titled “Nursing from Islamic Perspectives” was conducted for nursing students by Dr. Mohamed Umar. The session explored the values, ethics and principles of nursing from an Islamic viewpoint, helping students deepen their understanding of their professional responsibilities.

Nursing students also worked alongside campus staff in a campus cleaning initiative. The activity promoted environmental responsibility and encouraged students to contribute to maintaining a clean and welcoming campus.

Students valued the opportunity to honour healthcare professionals, reflect on nursing ethics and participate in community service. Nurses welcomed the gesture of appreciation, while the cleaning activity brought staff and students together through a shared contribution to campus life.

The celebrations strengthened connections between nursing students, healthcare professionals and the campus community. They also reinforced the importance of gratitude, professional ethics and service in preparing students for their future roles as nurses.
