8 February 2025

FHTS student Mr. Ibrahim Farish Ahmed, from the Advanced Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism programme, participated in the Young Chef Olympiad’s Dr. Bose Challenge under the mentorship of Lecturer Ms. Zulaikha Reesha Rashad.

The challenge required participants to develop and prepare a street food concept using a basket of ingredients revealed shortly before the competition. Mentors and contestants representing the Maldives and Switzerland collaborated to prepare two portions for the competition judges and 15 portions for public judges within one and a half hours.

With participants representing 60 countries, the competition provided Farisg with an opportunity to apply his culinary knowledge and technical skills in an international setting. Working under strict time constraints required creativity, problem-solving, time management and adaptability while maintaining professional standards of food preparation and presentation.

FHTS secured first place in the Most Publicly Voted Dish category of the Dr. Bose Challenge, recognising the appeal of the street food concept prepared during the competition.

Participation in the challenge supported experiential learning and skills development, while encouraging creativity and innovation in a professional competition environment. Working with international participants also created opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration, while providing Ibrahim with practical experience and competencies relevant to the world of work.
