Bachelor of International Hospitality Management (BIHM) students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) of The Maldives National University (MNU) participated in a Housekeeping Exposure Training at JW Marriott Kaafu Island Resort from 18–22 May 2025.
The training provided students with firsthand exposure to professional housekeeping operations within a luxury resort environment. Through the experience, students were able to observe and engage with housekeeping procedures, operational practices, service standards and workplace expectations within a professional hospitality setting.
The exposure training complemented students’ academic learning by providing practical insight into one of the core operational departments of the hospitality industry. Observing housekeeping operations in a working resort environment enabled students to develop a clearer understanding of how operational procedures and service standards are applied in professional practice.
The experience also supported experiential learning, allowing students to connect their classroom knowledge with real-world hospitality operations. Through direct exposure to workplace practices, students strengthened their understanding of the responsibilities and expectations associated with housekeeping operations.
The training provided opportunities for students to strengthen their knowledge of housekeeping procedures, service standards and operational practices while gaining greater awareness of professional workplace expectations. Such industry exposure contributes to skills development and professional development, helping students build competencies relevant to their future careers.
By connecting academic learning with practical industry experience, the training supports quality education and students’ employability. Exposure to professional resort operations also provides valuable preparation for the world of work, enabling students to develop a more informed understanding of the standards and practices expected within the hospitality industry.
Through practical training and industry links, FHTS continues to provide students with opportunities to gain meaningful workplace exposure and strengthen their readiness for professional careers in hospitality and tourism.
