14 July 2025

14 July–3 August 2025: An academic exchange visit to Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU Giessen), Germany, was undertaken under a grant from the German Research Foundation for the project “Methods and Pilot Data for the Empirical Description of Forms and Usage of English in the Maldives.”

As part of the visit, Senior Lecturer Aishath Suad attended the IAWE26 Conference and presented a research paper titled “Codeswitching Practices in the Maldives.” The conference provided an opportunity to share research on English language use in the Maldives with an international academic community while engaging in scholarly discussions and knowledge exchange.

The visit also included participation in post-conference workshops on “Statistics for Varieties Research” and “Statistics for Linguistics Research.” These workshops enhanced research skills and methodological expertise, particularly in the use of statistical approaches and evidence-based methods in linguistic research.

The activities contributed to quality education by strengthening research capacity, academic knowledge, professional development, and continuous learning in language education. They also promoted research, innovation, knowledge generation, and evidence-based approaches in linguistic studies.

Furthermore, the exchange strengthened international partnerships, academic collaboration, and knowledge sharing between higher education institutions. Such engagements contribute to building research capacity, advancing scholarly cooperation, and supporting sustainable development through education, innovation, and global academic partnerships.
