MNU Library Supports Inclusive Work Experience through Care Society Job Training Programme

22 October 2025

The Maldives National University (MNU) Library provided work experience and skills-development opportunities for participants of the Care Society Job Training Programme, following a request from Care Society. The initiative provided participants with an inclusive and supportive environment in which to develop practical workplace competencies, build confidence and gain experience within a professional library setting.

Participants undertook a range of hands-on activities adapted to their individual abilities, including preparing accession lists, shelving and shelf arrangement, book processing, developing promotional materials and assisting with selected counter services. Through practical engagement and interaction with library staff, participants were able to strengthen workplace skills, communication, independence and readiness for future employment.

Care Society, established in 1998, is a non-governmental organization working to support persons with disabilities in the Maldives and promote their participation, contribution and inclusion within the wider community.

The programme was also a valuable learning experience for MNU Library staff, strengthening awareness of how inclusive workplace practices and appropriate opportunities can enable persons with disabilities to participate meaningfully and contribute their skills within professional environments. The initiative reinforces MNU Library’s commitment to creating accessible and inclusive spaces that promote learning, participation, dignity and equal opportunity.
