Professional Development Programme on Assessment and AI in Higher Education for Faculty of Education Staff

On 9th August 2025, an Academic Staff Professional Development (PD) Programme was conducted at the Faculty of Education (FE) on the topic “Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education: Adapting to the Use of AI by Students.” The session was facilitated by Professor Noor Khamimi from the University of Science Islam Malaysia and attended by FE academic staff.

The programme focused on strengthening academic staff capacity to develop effective and responsive assessment strategies in the context of the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education. Participants explored approaches to adapting assessment practices while maintaining academic integrity, fairness, reliability, and validity in evaluating student learning.

The session also highlighted the importance of developing ethical and responsible approaches to AI in education, enabling academic staff to respond to emerging technologies while ensuring that assessment remains transparent and meaningful.

The programme contributed to quality education by strengthening academic capacity and enhancing assessment practices. It also encouraged responsible digital innovation and promoted transparent, ethical, and accountable assessment processes within higher education.

Through knowledge sharing and professional development, the session supported the Faculty of Education in strengthening its approaches to innovative assessment, academic integrity, and responsible use of emerging technologies.
