FHTS Students Gain International Hospitality Exposure Through Azerbaijan Trip

13 October 2025

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) of The Maldives National University (MNU) organised an international exposure trip to Azerbaijan, providing students with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of global hospitality practices and gain firsthand exposure to an international tourism and hospitality environment.

The trip was designed to provide meaningful exposure to cultural diversity and create opportunities for students to engage with hospitality practices beyond the Maldives. Experiencing a different cultural and professional environment enabled students to observe how cultural differences, service expectations and industry practices can influence the guest experience.

The international exposure trip provided students with firsthand exposure to international service standards, operational approaches and guest expectations. Observing hospitality practices in a different cultural and professional context allowed students to connect their academic learning with real-world applications.

The experience also encouraged experiential learning, giving students opportunities to develop a broader understanding of hospitality operations through observation and engagement outside the classroom. Exposure to different approaches within the international hospitality industry can contribute to skills development, professional awareness and lifelong learning.

The trip also provided opportunities for students to establish and strengthen connections with hospitality professionals and organisations beyond the Maldives. Such exposure supports industry links and knowledge sharing while helping students gain a broader perspective on professional practices within the global hospitality sector.

International exposure opportunities contribute to quality education by complementing academic learning with practical and cultural experiences. They also support students’ employability by developing their awareness of international service expectations and preparing them for the diverse environments of the world of work.

Through international exposure and experiential learning, FHTS continues to provide students with opportunities to broaden their professional perspectives, strengthen industry-relevant skills and engage with global hospitality practices.
