The Maldives National University (MNU) and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership focused on promoting academic excellence, research collaboration, and cultural exchange between the two institutions.
The signing ceremony, held at the Maldives National University, was graced by the Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar, Vice Chancellor of MNU, Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam, members of the IIUM delegation, Deputy Vice Chancellors, and senior officials of MNU.
The MoU reflects the shared commitment of both universities to advancing higher education through collaborative initiatives. The partnership aims to foster cooperation in key areas such as joint research, academic exchange, capacity building, staff development, and the creation of innovative programs that enhance intercultural understanding and academic growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, both institutions highlighted the importance of integrating knowledge with values to serve humanity, a principle that underpins the missions of MNU and IIUM alike. The collaboration seeks to nurture graduates who not only excel academically but also embody integrity, empathy, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The agreement also reinforces the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and Malaysia, built upon shared faith, cultural kinship, and decades of educational collaboration. Many Maldivians have pursued their studies in Malaysia, and IIUM has long served as an influential academic destination for students from across the Muslim world, including the Maldives.
Through this partnership, MNU and IIUM aim to deepen academic cooperation, encourage joint innovation, and contribute to the development of human capital that advances both national and global progress.
