On November 22, 2025, The Maldives National University (MNU), in collaboration with UNICEF and the Ministry of Education, successfully hosted the Validation Workshop for the Landscape Analysis of the Readiness for Digital Transformation in Government Schools Across the Maldives.
The session brought together key stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor and senior management of MNU, representatives from UNICEF, officials from the Ministry of Education, as well as participants from schools, higher education institutions, and other relevant education bodies. This diverse group gathered to review the findings and methodology of the study, which assessed the digital transformation readiness of government schools across the country.
The research, commissioned by the Ministry of Education under the THAIBA Project and funded by UNICEF, focused on evaluating the current state of digital readiness in key areas such as technical infrastructure, organizational capacity, behavioural readiness, and financial sustainability. Its aim was to provide a solid foundation for shaping a comprehensive, equitable, and sustainable digital learning policy for Maldivian schools.
During the validation session, the research team presented the study’s key findings and insights. This was followed by an engaging discussion on practical and actionable recommendations to enhance digital readiness and guide the strategic development of digital learning across the nation. These recommendations will be instrumental in preparing government schools for the digital age, ensuring that both students and educators have the tools they need for effective learning and teaching.
Participants engaged actively in the discussions, sharing their experiences and perspectives on how the findings could be applied in real-world educational settings. The collaborative nature of the session underscored the importance of a unified approach in tackling the challenges and seizing the opportunities posed by digital transformation in education.
The workshop concluded with a strong commitment from all parties to continue working together to build a robust and sustainable digital learning ecosystem for the Maldives. The insights and recommendations generated during the session will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of digital education in the country.
