An agreement was signed on September 14, 2025, between the Ha. Ihavandhoo Council Office and the Maldives National University to allocate a building in Ha. Ihavandhoo for conducting courses of the Maldives National University. The agreement was signed by Ahmed Sobah, the President of the Ihavandhoo Council, on behalf of the council, and Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Maldives National University.
This agreement, reached after discussions between the Maldives National University and the Ihavandhoo Council, will transform the building provided by Ihavandhoo into a catalyst for significant economic and social progress, opening numerous opportunities for Ihavandhoo. Specifically, in addition to expanding higher education opportunities for students living in various parts of the Maldives, it will open new doors in education and employment for the people of Ihavandhoo. As a result, a learning environment will be established in Ihavandhoo, providing young people of the island with the opportunity to pursue higher education without having to leave their island.
Furthermore, with the commencement of university courses, it is anticipated that Ihavandhoo’s economy will experience positive changes. New avenues for income generation will open up for the island’s residents, and small businesses are expected to flourish. From a social perspective, the educational standards of the island will improve, and the spirit of learning will be further strengthened. This agreement represents a significant step towards expanding the services of the Maldives National University to various parts of the country.
