Professional Development Session on Creating Inclusive Classrooms for Dhaal Atoll Education Center teachers

On 31st May 2025, Senior Lecturer Mariyam Azra Abdula Raheem conducted a Professional Development (PD) session titled “Creating Inclusive Classrooms: Through the Lens of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)” for teachers of Dhaal Atoll Education Centre.

The session focused on strengthening teachers’ capacity to create inclusive, accessible, and supportive learning environments through the application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Participants explored flexible teaching strategies and practical approaches for addressing diverse learner needs while encouraging active participation and meaningful engagement among all students.

The session emphasised the importance of equitable access to learning, reducing barriers that may affect student participation, and creating classroom environments that accommodate different abilities, learning preferences, and educational needs.

The initiative contributed to quality and inclusive education by strengthening teachers’ professional capacity and promoting learner-centred and equitable teaching practices. It also highlighted the importance of accessibility and inclusion in ensuring that all students have meaningful opportunities to participate and succeed.

The session further demonstrated the value of collaboration between the Faculty of Education and schools in supporting continuous professional development and strengthening inclusive education practices.
