The School of Medicine, The Maldives National University officially commenced the Dementia Prevalence Study in the Greater Malé Area in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Department of Neurology and Centre for Mental Health, Alzheimer’s Society of Maldives, and the Society for Health Education.
The study aims to generate reliable data on the prevalence of dementia within the Maldivian population, providing evidence to inform healthcare planning, policy development, and future dementia care services. By bringing together academic institutions, healthcare providers, and community organizations, the initiative strengthens collaborative research and promotes evidence-based approaches to addressing the growing burden of neurological and mental health conditions.
The study also contributes to raising awareness of dementia while supporting the development of effective strategies for early detection, care, and support for affected individuals and their families.
