Students representing MNUSU Neyka, the MNU Student Union – Thinadhoo Campus Wing, participated in the WDC Hiyala Handball Tournament 8 – 2026, organised by the Women’s Development Committee – Thinadhoo City at the Thinadhoo City Handball Ground.
Neyka fielded teams in both the women’s and men’s divisions, giving students an opportunity to represent MNU Thinadhoo Campus through competitive sport while strengthening teamwork, discipline, resilience, and campus spirit.
The women’s team demonstrated a particularly strong performance throughout the tournament. Their campaign began with a 9–9 draw against City Stars, followed by victories against Fit Feminine (14–12), City Stars (23–17), and Fit Feminine (20–19). These performances secured Neyka a place in the Women’s Division Final on 16 October 2026.
In a closely contested final against City Stars, Neyka finished Runner-Up after a 15–17 result, concluding an impressive tournament run characterised by determination, teamwork, and consistent performance.
Several Neyka players also received individual recognition. Firushana Naseer was named Queen of the Match on two occasions and received the Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer awards. Fathimath Shoora Yasir was also recognised as Queen of the Match, while Aishath Zaifa received the Promising Player award. Three Neyka players — Mariyam Yuman, Fathimath Shoora Yasir, and Firushana Naseer — were selected among the tournament’s Top 7 Players.
The men’s team also represented Neyka throughout the tournament, competing against J Nine, Scorpions, and Red Wings. Their participation reflected commitment, team spirit, and the willingness of students to engage actively in competitive community sports.
Participation in the tournament contributes to SDG 3 by promoting physical activity, health, well-being, and active lifestyles among young people. Sporting participation can also support mental well-being, confidence, and positive social interaction.
The initiative also contributes to SDG 4 by providing learning opportunities beyond the classroom, where students develop teamwork, leadership, discipline, resilience, communication, and other transferable life skills through participation in sport.
The strong participation and achievements of the women’s team further support SDG 5 by promoting opportunities for women and young female athletes to participate, compete, demonstrate leadership, and receive recognition through sport.
The involvement of MNU students in a community tournament organised by the Women’s Development Committee – Thinadhoo City also supports SDG 17, demonstrating the value of community partnerships in creating opportunities for youth engagement, well-being, and personal development.
MNU Thinadhoo Campus congratulates MNUSU Neyka, all participating players, team representatives, and award recipients for representing the campus with determination and sporting spirit. The campus extends its sincere appreciation to the Women’s Development Committee – Thinadhoo City for planning and arranging the tournament, Huvadhoo Recreations for running the tournament, and all sponsors, well-wishers, supporters, and contributors whose support helped make this valuable experience possible for our students.
