The Maldives National University (MNU) Library conducted an orientation session on the “Importance of the Library” as part of the General Orientation Programme for Term 2, 2026. The session was organised in collaboration with MNU Student Support for the new student intake and was held at the A Block Auditorium.
The orientation introduced newly enrolled students to the important role of the Library in supporting their academic studies and overall university learning experience. Students were provided with an overview of the resources and services available through MNU Libraries, including print and digital collections, library facilities, and academic support services.
The session also covered basic library rules and guidelines, helping students understand how to make effective and responsible use of library facilities and resources. Particular emphasis was placed on the academic role of the Library and the importance of using reliable information resources to support coursework, assignments, research, and independent learning.
As part of the orientation, students received a practical demonstration on searching for library materials through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The demonstration guided students through locating books and other library resources, identifying relevant materials, and using the catalogue effectively to meet their academic needs.
Through this orientation, MNU Library aims to familiarise new students with the resources, facilities, and services available to them from the beginning of their university journey. The Library remains committed to supporting students in developing effective information-searching skills and making the most of the resources available to support their academic success.
