Academics from the Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU), participated in the Theveli International Conference 2025, contributing to scholarly exchange, research dissemination, and the development of knowledge relevant to the Maldivian context. The conference provided a platform for Faculty members to present their research, engage with the wider academic community, and share findings across areas of scholarly interest.
Faculty academics delivered numerous research presentations at the conference, demonstrating the Faculty’s continued engagement in research and academic inquiry. Their participation created opportunities to exchange ideas, receive scholarly feedback, and contribute to discussions that support the advancement of research and higher education in the Maldives.
A highlight of the conference was the recognition of two research papers co-authored by Faculty academics with the Outstanding Paper of the Conference Award. One award-winning paper was co-authored by Aminath Riyaz, Zulfa Ibrahim, and Aminath Zahir, while the second was co-authored by Azeeza Afeef and Aminath Riyaz. These awards recognised the papers’ contributions to the conference and highlighted the research work undertaken by academics within the Faculty.
Further strengthening this achievement, both papers were accepted for publication in the forthcoming special issue of the Maldives National Journal of Research (MNJR) 2025. Publication will provide a platform for disseminating the research findings to a wider audience and supporting continued scholarly communication within the academic community.
The participation and recognition of Faculty academics at Theveli International Conference 2025 reflect the importance of creating opportunities for researchers to present their work, share knowledge, and contribute to academic publications. These achievements also support the development of a research culture in which scholarly contributions are recognised and research findings can inform further inquiry and discussion.
The Faculty’s participation contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by supporting academic research, knowledge development, and scholarly learning; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through research production and dissemination that strengthen research capacity; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by facilitating scholarly exchange and engagement within the research community. Contributions to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) should be included where the research topics or documented conference activities specifically address gender equality, employment, labour, or economic development.
