MNU Strengthens Professional Communication Through Dhivehi Letter Writing Training

16 July 2026

The Maldives National University (MNU) has reinforced its commitment to administrative excellence and effective communication through a professional development programme on “Letter Writing in Dhivehi,” aimed at strengthening staff competencies in preparing clear, accurate, and professional correspondence in the national language.

The training highlighted the importance of effective Dhivehi communication in university administration, where well-structured correspondence plays a vital role in conveying official information, maintaining professional relationships, and ensuring responsive service delivery. By strengthening written communication skills, the programme sought to promote greater consistency and professionalism across MNU’s administrative services.

A central focus of the session was developing administrative staff’s confidence in preparing both formal and informal letters in Dhivehi. Participants explored essential stages of correspondence preparation, including organising information logically, applying appropriate letter formats, and selecting language that communicates messages clearly and effectively.

Particular attention was given to the use of suitable tone and respectful wording when addressing difficult or sensitive matters. The training emphasised how thoughtful language choices can help prevent misunderstandings, maintain professionalism, and support constructive communication with students, staff, and external stakeholders.

The programme also introduced practical writing techniques designed to improve efficiency in preparing administrative correspondence. By encouraging structured drafting approaches and clear expression, the session aimed to help staff reduce preparation time while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and quality in official documentation.

Beyond individual writing competencies, the initiative underscored the wider importance of strengthening communication in the national language as part of effective institutional administration. Promoting high-quality Dhivehi correspondence can support linguistic accessibility, improve information-sharing, and ensure that university services remain responsive to the communication needs of the Maldivian community.

The training further highlighted the value of continuous professional development in equipping administrative personnel with essential workplace skills. Strengthening staff confidence in Dhivehi letter writing can contribute to more efficient administrative processes, clearer institutional communication, and improved coordination across university sections.

Aligned with priorities of quality education, lifelong learning, decent work, professional capacity development, linguistic inclusion, effective communication, institutional accountability, and accessible public services, the initiative reflects MNU’s continued efforts to strengthen administrative professionalism while promoting the effective use of Dhivehi in university operations.
