MNU Strengthens Administrative Communication Through Professional Letter and Memo Writing Training

10 July 2026

The Maldives National University (MNU) has reinforced its commitment to administrative excellence through a professional development workshop titled “Letter and Memo Writing in English,” aimed at strengthening written communication, improving official correspondence, and enhancing the efficiency of information-sharing across university services.

The workshop targeted senior administrators and administrative officers, recognising the essential role of clear, accurate, and professional communication in effective institutional operations. With administrative decisions, internal coordination, and service delivery often relying on written correspondence, the programme highlighted the importance of developing strong workplace writing competencies.

A central focus of the training was strengthening participants’ understanding of business letter formats, official correspondence standards, and the appropriate use of professional tone. The programme also explored the purpose and structure of internal memoranda, emphasising how well-organised memos can communicate important information, clarify responsibilities, and support timely administrative action.

The workshop addressed essential language skills, including grammar, punctuation, sentence construction, editing, and proofreading. By focusing on accuracy, clarity, and conciseness, the training sought to help administrative staff produce documents that communicate information effectively while reducing the potential for misunderstandings.

A key component of the programme was its practical approach to professional writing. Through drafting exercises, peer review, and constructive feedback, participants were given opportunities to apply writing principles, evaluate document quality, and identify areas for improvement. These activities encouraged collaborative learning and strengthened confidence in preparing workplace correspondence.

Beyond individual writing skills, the initiative highlighted the wider importance of standardised communication practices in institutional governance and administrative accountability. Clear and consistent documentation can support smoother coordination between university sections, improve information flow, and contribute to more responsive services for students, staff, and external stakeholders.

The training also underscored the value of continuous professional development in strengthening the capabilities of MNU’s administrative workforce. By equipping staff with practical communication skills, the university aims to promote greater professionalism, operational consistency, and efficiency in everyday administrative functions.

Aligned with priorities of quality education, lifelong learning, decent work, professional capacity development, effective communication, institutional accountability, and efficient service delivery, the workshop reflects MNU’s continued efforts to build a skilled, confident, and professionally equipped administrative workforce capable of supporting effective university operations.
