The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS), The Maldives National University (MNU) hosted “Ilmee Foavahi 2024,” featuring a panel discussion on “Workforce Localisation in the Resort Sector of the Maldives.”

he panel discussion focused on the importance of developing local talent and strengthening opportunities for Maldivians within the resort sector. The discussion explored approaches to workforce development, including ways to promote equal opportunities, strengthen local participation, and improve access to career progression and professional developmentopportunities within the hospitality industry.

The event provided a platform for knowledge sharing and dialogue on workforce development and the evolving needs of the Maldivian tourism sector. Discussions also highlighted the importance of equipping students and future hospitality professionals with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to contribute effectively to the industry and participate meaningfully in the world of work.

The discussion further highlighted the role of education and skills development in preparing a capable local workforce for the hospitality industry. Strengthening links between higher education and the tourism sector can provide opportunities to better understand industry needs and support the development of relevant knowledge and skills among future hospitality professionals.
