The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) Exposure Trip Committee organised a two-day bread-making workshop on 25 and 26 February 2026.
Led by FHTS Dean Ms. Zeenath Solih, the workshop welcomed 30 participants for a hands-on learning experience covering key bread-making techniques. Participants developed practical skills in preparing different types of bread, including ingredient preparation, mixing, kneading, proofing, and baking. Step-by-step guidance enabled participants to apply the techniques during the workshop and build greater confidence in bread making.
By opening the workshop to members of the public, FHTS promoted community education through practical baking skills and extended lifelong learning opportunities beyond the University. Participant feedback highlighted improvements in practical knowledge and confidence, as well as increased interest in continuing to develop culinary and baking skills.
The workshop also supported the development of vocational skills relevant to the world of work, including the hospitality, culinary and food-service sectors. Such practical learning experiences can help participants build transferable skills and explore areas with potential relevance to employment and entrepreneurship.
The workshop also served as a fundraising initiative of the FHTS Exposure Trip Committee. By bringing together students, faculty and members of the wider community, the initiative combined practical education with community participation while supporting further learning opportunities for FHTS students.
Through initiatives such as this workshop, FHTS continues to promote quality education, lifelong learning, practical skills development, and meaningful engagement with the wider community.
